SCOTT Fagan was hotly-tipped to become a massive star but his music career became one of many frustrating near misses.
Discovered, managed and mentored by Doc Pomus in 1965 with just 11 cents in his pocket, the then 19-year-old played as the house act at the Cafe Au Go Go alongside Jimi Hendrix.
Fagan then almost became the first artist other than the Beatles to join Apple Records before landing a deal at Atco.
He later co-wrote Soon, the first Broadway rock musical starring a young Richard Gere.
Fagan's own music failed to get the recognition it deserved but now he is getting an unlikely second chance with the reissue of his 1968 debut album, South Atlantic Blues.
Almost half a century after its release he is also embarking on his first European tour which hits Manchester's Deaf Institute on October 14.
