STOCKTON Heath is flush with purple once again after retaining its Purple Flag status for a second year.

After becoming the first village to claim the title last year Stockton Heath has done it again.

The award is given to places which demonstrate excellent standards in managing the area at night while also being visitor friendly.

Among the many initiatives brought about by the Purple Flag standard is the opening up of toilets in restaurants and pubs to everyone.

The Purple Flag scheme aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of centres between 5pm and 6am.

The Purple Flag Association is hoping to get school pupils from Stockton Heath to add their decorative embellishments to the flags which fly from shops, restaurants and bars in the village.

Bellway Homes is also currently flying the main Purple Flag at its development The Heath, off Loushers Lane, in Latchford, with plans to sponsor a permanent flagpole at the Fairfield Road and London Road junction subject to planning permission.

Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “Achieving Purple Flag status again is a great achievement. People and organisations have worked hard to meet and maintain the high standards required and I would like to offer them all my congratulations.”

Sue Dodd, chairman of the group added: “We are all proud of our village and delighted the assessors have continued to recognise the hard work of residents and our partners in helping to protect and improve the area. I would encourage as many people as possible to help us to make a difference.” To find out more call Dave Watson at Warrington Borough Council on 442590.
