TWO rising sport stars are in line for recognition in our sportsperson of the year category.

Matthew Gibson, from Lymm is one of the country’s most promising cyclists.

The 16-yearold has enjoyed great success in 2013 in the British National Junior and Youth Championships.

Rafik Tahraoui meanwhile is a key member of Great Britain’s handball team.

The 23-year-old former Penketh High School pupil and Priestley College student is a regular in the GB squad.

Toby Macormac, from Warrington Town, who sponsored the category.

He added: “Warrington Town is long established and realises the hard work and effort that volunteers from all over the town put into community projects and volunteer organisations they are involved in and it underlines the community strength of our town and to be involved in an awards evening to reward people for effort and achievement makes us proud to be an award sponsor.

“The categories of the awards show the strength and depth of the community element in the town and we applaud the Warrington Guardian for realising this fact and making the event possible.

“Warrington Town Football Club were eager to be involved in the Inspiration Awards to reach out to the community to get people more involved.

“Football clubs can be fantastic community hubs and our target is to build just that.

“We have recently launched a 2020 Vision Project to get the club into the Football League and we’re looking for volunteers and people from all parts of the Warrington Community to be involved in our community project.”
