WARRINGTON Green Party took to the streets in a show of solidarity with the People's Climate March which took place across the world.

Members got on their bikes to cycle from the Town Hall to Sankey Valley Park and back to draw attention to the climate change summit in New York.

“Our demand for the summit is for actions, not words,” said Lyndsay McAteer, the party’s candidate for Fairfield and Howley.

“The ride was all about pressing for the action needed to create a world with an economy that works for people and the planet – now. In short, we want a world safe from the ravages of climate change.”

The climate march took place in cities including London, Manchester and New York itself.

Lyndsay added: “Our bike ride - producing zero emissions along the way – was about highlighting the environmental benefits of cycling, not driving, and also the health benefits.

“We know that no single meeting or summit will ‘solve climate change’, but we want this moment to be about us – the people who are standing up in our communities to organise, to build power, to confront the power of fossil fuels, and to shift power to a just, safe, peaceful world."
