A CHARITY tackling stress for veterans is appealing for help after having around £500 stolen at its 'garden of peace and remembrance' in Latchford.

The garden project in Victoria Park, behind the Spirit Restaurant, was broken into overnight.

The vandals also 'smashed' through the Christmas preparations, including food, which had been brought in to give veterans a memorable day.

"It upsets me and is a shame," said charity founder Mark Smith.

"A lot of the people that we help don't have much money and so what we were going to put on would have been to give them something back.

"All the food has been smashed and so now we need to see if any supermarkets can help."

Police have been to the scene and are currently investigating.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
