POLICE are investigating 'cruel' bird shootings at Risley Moss after several animals were killed in recent weeks.
Deborah Marshall, wildlife officer at Cheshire Police, said a barn owl, swan and heron have been shot and killed at the wildlife site.
A red kite, a species saved from extinction by a national protection programme, has also died from suspected poisoning in a series of incidents.
Police are appealing for information to help catch those responsible.
PC Marshall, from Warrington South NPU, said: "People who carry out these cruel attacks on our wildlife don't understand the consequences of what they are doing.
"These birds are protected and killing them is against the law.
"Crimes against wildlife will not be tolerated.
"Anyone with information or that may have seen suspicious activity in the area should contact me on 101."
