MRS Lucy Black received a letter from the King commending her family after her five sons all signed up to serve the war effort.
The letter conveyed ‘his Majesty’s appreciation of the patriotic spirit which has prompted your five sons to give their services at the present time to the Army.’
1965
TWICE in a week vandals set fire to a wire works in Winwick Road.
W. H. Porter and Co thanked Warrington Fire Service after containers of oxy-acetylene had to be dragged away from the blaze to prevent an explosion.
The incidents followed six months of break-ins.
