RESIDENTS are being urged to nominate their construction 'heroes' and apprentices to represent the town at the Construction Industry Training Board's (CITB) awards ceremony.

The annual Pride of Construction evening recognises the UK's top construction talent and commends those who have gone above and beyond in their work.

The body has highlighted ongoing construction in the town and is keen for deserving tradesmen and women to be honoured.

CITB sector strategy manager for the north west Steve Housden said: "Warrington has a strong construction tradition and our latest figures forecast we will need just short of 5,000 extra jobs a year for the next five years in the north west.

"So we are right to put the spotlight on apprentices here and celebrate the achievements of young people who are the future of the industry.

"There has been some brilliant construction work in Warrington, so I strongly encourage individuals and firms to get involved and get nominating."

Tom Hughes, who won the National Construction College plant apprentice of the year award in 2014, is also encouraging residents to get involved.

"It was great to win the award last year," he said.

"My apprenticeship has been a lot of hard work but it's been worth it and the Pride of Construction ceremony is a fantastic way of recognizing the work that apprentices do."

This year, CITB would like to celebrate the unsung work that people in the construction sector are doing in their communities.

Mr Housden added: "We know there are people in the construction and building trades doing great work in communities across the country.

"People who help to build new homes and schools, or carry out vital repairs, sometimes at a moment's notice, sometimes in the middle of the night. "We'd like to celebrate these people in the Pride of Construction awards."

This year's ceremony will take place on November 25 at the Natural History Museum in London.
