RESIDENTS have raised concerns over a planning application for a new housing development in Lymm.

Planetree Homes is looking to build seven family homes on land in between Cedarfield Road and the former Farmers Arms pub, but villagers are worried about traffic and noise levels as well as privacy.

Margaret Sharp, who lives on Cedarfield Road, said:“My objection is that the area is already busy with people and cars – Sandy Lane can’t cope with the levels of traffic and all of the schools are full.”

Other residents have expressed concern over the loss of wildlife and were worried that it could open up the possibility of subsequent development on the site of the disused Farmers Arms.

Stella Mitchell, who has lived in Ashfield Close for 13 years, said: “Sandy Lane is a horrendous road to travel down without increasing the traffic volume.

“Not only do I feel this will be detrimental to the safety of children who currently enjoy and play safely in the area – which is why a lot of people bought a property in a cul-de-sac – but the wildlife is a whole matter in itself.”

Cllr Ian Marks shared the residents’ concerns but hoped that any potential development would be for affordable housing.

He said: "We have been expecting a planning application for the derelict Farmers Arms site for some time.

“If one comes I would very much hope it is for affordable housing like the development next door at the corner of Sandy Lane and Rushgreen Road – in Lymm there is a need for affordable housing, not larger family homes.

“I also share residents' concerns about disruption due to traffic from the site – it is essential that the planners and highways officers listen careful to what local people are saying when they judge this application.”

Objections to the proposals must be submitted by August 20.

Residents have arranged a meeting to discuss the proposals, which will take place tonight, Tuesday, at 7.30pm at Oughtrington Community Centre, Oughtrington Crescent.
