WARRINGTON South Labour's Nick Bent will feature on BBC Panorama in September during a special broadcast about the future of the party.

The constituency's spokesman and candidate in the previous two general elections was filmed by the broadcaster last Saturday outside the Parr Hall and along the Bridgewater Canal.

Mr Bent is continuing to put forward his views to the electorate across various platforms and believes the Warrington South seat is as important as ever.

He said: "Warrington South played host to this hustings debate because this is a crucial seat that the new Labour leader must win back from the Conservatives – there is a lot at stake here.

"I enjoyed hosting a special event for MP Liz Kendall at Institution Bar so people could meet her in person, as I believe she is Labour's best chance to learn lessons and reconnect with voters.

"I'm certainly doing my bit for the open and honest debate Labour is having about why we lost and how we win next time.

"I've done interviews for BBC news and LBC radio, as well as a very lively 5 live debate at Media City.

"Warrington South is a microcosm of England and the voices of people here need to be heard in the national political debate."

Tom Jennings, who will remain involved within Warrington Young Labour, despite no longer being chairman, is also backing Ms Kendall and has hit out at her critics.

He said: "I strongly disagree with those saying that she is Tory like.

"Having strong public finances, wanting strong schools and focusing on welfare issues are the key values, which the country needs.

"She has showed she is the only leader who can make us credible again, the only one with passion and the only one talking about economic credibility with a real plan."

The 21-year-old also spoke of the importance of continuing to try to get more younger residents in the town interested in politics.

"Part of the reason we can continue to excel in the Labour party is because of the social media side of things – we are part of a digital age now and that is one of the best ways to connect with younger people," he added.

Mr Jennings and WYL chairman Josh Booth made an appearance on BBC Breakfast last Saturday ahead of the hustings in the town.

The Panorama show will be broadcast on September 7, just five days before the party's new leader and deputy leader are announced.
