A DISABLED strong man was hit in the head with a log weighing 80kg when he was taking part in a national competition on Saturday.
Brad Gleave, 21, suffers from cerebral palsy and was taking part in Britain’s Strongest Disabled Man at Northwood Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent.
He was hit in the head with the log during one of the events but was able to carry on and claim 8th place at the competition.
He said: “In one event a log weighing 80kg fell on my head but I was able to carry on – I’ve got a lump on my head but I’m alright.”
Brad only started bodybuilding in May having been introduced to the Iron Pit Gym in Howley.
He added: “For my first competition it was pretty good because some of the other people have been doing it for years.
“I came second in one event – the Hercules hold – but if I’d held on for a bit longer I would’ve come first.
“If I’d held on for two more seconds I would’ve won it.
Brad is also a rapper under the pseudonym Spokes, martial arts expert and boxer – in 2012 he became the first disabled boxing coach in the country.
And now he is aiming to go even further.
He will compete in America next year and wants to go to the Commonwealth Games.
Brad added: “Now I’m just training for the North American championships in April and the 2016 strongest man.
“They’re also bringing over the world’s strongest man so hopefully I can qualify for that and I’m also hoping to have a go at the Commonwealth Games.”
