LEGENDARY Warrington partygoer Stan the Man is recovering from a broken hip in hospital after a fall at his Penketh home.

Stan Knowles, better known as Stan the Man, was regularly spotted strutting his stuff in the town’s nightclubs until he opted for a quieter life when he was 82 due to arthritis in his knees.

Now 88, Stan is recuperating in Warrington Hospital after a fall at his home in Penketh two weeks ago.

He sustained a broken hip and injuries to his face and leg after falling while getting out of bed in the middle of the night.

But Stan’s wife Doreen says he is in good spirits despite his fall.

She said: “He doesn’t mind being in hospital because he gets a lot of attention.

“He’s up and down – he gets a little depressed occasionally but we’re hoping to get him home next week.

“Our daughter and her husband were due to go on holiday but she had to cancel it – it’s been a hectic few weeks.”

Stan is hoping to get back home next week.
