BRIDGEWATER High School pupils swapped art, history and law for a range of international topics including Google's tax affairs during a trip to Parliament.

Warrington South MP David Mowat welcomed year 10 students from the school, on Broomfields Road, as well as a number of Appleton College pupils to experience a day in his shoes.

Those in attendance engaged in a 'wide-range of discussions' with Mr Mowat in areas covering Google's tax affairs, the north-south divide and the EU referendum.

He said: "I was delighted to be able to welcome students from Bridgewater High to Parliament and I hope the experience was both enjoyable and rewarding.

"Parliament is where the laws of the land are discussed and decided upon, where the great issues of the day are discussed and where our Government is held to account for its actions.

"It's important to keep reminding young people of why Parliament is there and perhaps inspire them to one day become a part of its history."

Trip leader Ryan Bate is also hopeful the day will have the desired effect on pupils.

He said: "I hope that this visit will inspire our students and I'm very grateful to David for taking the time to meet with us.

"Explaining to young people about how Parliament works and talking them through the textbooks is one thing but being able to see Parliament, in all its majesty, is something else entirely – it really brings the subject to life."
