TRIBUTES have been paid to Phil Gartside for the 'tremendous work' he did in helping Warrington Wolves in the early days at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The Bolton Wanderers chairman died yesterday, Wednesday, at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer.
He was a well-known businessman in Warrington having worked at Lockers on Church Street for many years, initially as finance director.
He was also involved in the Wolves in the early 2000s.
Club chairman Steven Broomhead said: "He was a very good support to the town and the rugby club.
"He was very helpful to the early stages of the redevelopment of the rugby club and was a first class guy.
"We were all saddened by the news. Phil was a good friend to the club particularly during the development and move to The Halliwell Jones Stadium when he offered invaluable advice and guidance as well as access to their training facilities and equipment."
“Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends at this time. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him” added honorary club president Lord Hoyle.
