THE jobs climate in Warrington continues to improve after unemployment figures in the town dropped by 11 per cent, the Office for National Statistics has revealed.

Data comparing the May 2015 figures to May 2016 has identified 2,330 as unemployed and living in Warrington – this figures in down by 290 on the same period last year.

A total of 505 people aged 18 to 24 are currently in the process of hunting for a job – this has also dropped from last year's figures by 195 people.
This equates to a 28 per cent decrease in those listed as unemployed.

Colin Billingsley, manager of Jobcentre Plus Warrington, welcomed the news, linking the rise to major business investment in recent months in Warrington.

He said: "We are seeing that the job climate is improving in the Warrington area and we are pleased that so many job seekers - particularly young people - are entering the labour market.

"We have strong partnerships with the local authority and we work together to help get local people into local jobs.

"Overall employment is up and in Warrington we are doing particularly well.

"The north west is also improving.

"It's not the case everywhere but we are pleased as in Warrington we are seeing the opportunities being offered and taken.

"The investment we have been bringing to Warrington with new employers is paying off."

Across the country, the UK unemployment rate has fallen to 5 per cent, the lowest since October 2005, according to official figures.
