BENTLEYS Motor Group has revved up the YMCA's bid to remain open after donating £1,800 to the charity.

Stephen Langley, chairman of the group, which has a car dealership on Manchester Road, presented YMCA centre manager Susan Blyth with the cheque following fresh fears that the organisation's town centre doors could shut by the end of November.

The money, donated as part of a community funding initiative set up by Toyota, is set to go towards funding the Room at the Inn project.

It was set up in 2010 to provide emergency support and accommodation for homeless people aged 18 and over.

It currently has a 10-bed facility, which is full each night, but those unable get a bed are provided with a sleeping bag and rucksack with essential supplies.

Mr Langley hailed the volunteers dedicating their time to the charity and explained Bentleys Motor Group's involvement.

He said: "We started our support of Room at the Inn in 2014 when we provided one of our cars to pull the Christmas float as part of a fundraising initiative organised by volunteers from St Philip's Church.

"Since then we have visited both the YMCA and the night shelter and were humbled by the work that Susan and her team undertake every day.

"It is easy to forget how many vulnerable people there are in our town as we go about our daily lives and as a business serving the community for more than 30 years we felt we had to help in some way.

"It may sound cliché but Susan is truly an inspiration and a remarkable, compassionate woman who is deserving not just of our support but also the support of others in Warrington."
