JEREMY Corbyn supporters from across the north west turned out in force to a music festival organised to help raise funds for his Labour leadership campaign.

More than 300 people attended and raised around £900 at Rock For Corbyn, which took place at The Brewhouse, on Buttermarket Street, on Sunday.

The day featured music from bands across the north west, including Warrington's The Roughneck Riot, as well as speeches.

Momentum Warrington – a grassroots political organisation associated to Jeremy Corbyn – helped organise it and is confident the Islington North MP will remain as leader.

Beth Steventon-Crinks, the group's leadership campaign manager, said: "With speeches from councillors, a BBQ, raffle and two stages, we were pleased to see a mixture of ages and families attend.

"We hope the event reminds people that Jeremy Corbyn has a range of support from young people, professionals, students and families, as well as unions.

"The Brewhouse is a fantastic venue and their team were incredible, working throughout the day despite the weather.

"People from across the north west attended the event and we were able to celebrate the achievements of the Labour Party over the past 12 months under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership.

"This last year has seen the Labour Party achieve so much.

"We won the Oldham seat that we were told would be the test of Corbyn's leadership, gained councillor seats here in Warrington, Cllr David Keane was voted in as police and crime commissioner for Cheshire and we won many Mayor elections, including Warrington-born Paul Dennett in Salford, as well as winning back two Mayor positions from the Conservatives.

"As the opposition we also forced the Conservative Government to carry out 22 U-turns including on working tax credits, forced academisation and the proposed cut to personal independence payment, a benefit which many disabled people need to ensure independence.

"If this is what a Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn can achieve in opposition in just one year, imagine what we could achieve if he was re-elected."

Mr Corbyn is facing a challenge for the leadership from Pontypridd MP Owen Smith.

Ballots have been going out this week and must be returned by September 21 to ensure they are counted before the result on September 24.
