A SIX-year-old girl was so upset by the news that her neighbourhood library could close that she has written to the Queen to ask if anything can be done.

Emma Conroy decided to take action after her grandmother told her Stockton Heath Library might be shut if LiveWire’s modernisation plans go ahead.

The Stockton Heath Primary School pupil got her coloured biros out and penned letters to Her Majesty, the council, Warrington South MP David Mowat and the Mayor.

Emma wrote: “I love going to the library because I like choosing my library books. I like to look at the title and look through it to see if I like the book.

“If you close the library all the wonderful staff might lose their jobs. I would miss them very much.”

Mum Joanne Drake said Emma has been going to the library since she was six months old and often meets friends from school for story time.

She said: “When she heard about the plans she got really upset that all the ladies were going to lose their jobs, she went in to give them a cuddle.

“Emma picks up all sorts of books, she likes flicking through to see if she can understand them first. If they are going to do the lending lockers it won’t be the same – you can’t flick through a book online.

“It’s a shame for the children. If you can instil a love of reading in them from an early age it just helps so much. It’s going to change the community as a whole.”

Joanne, a teaching assistant, said she sees the impact books have on children and the library is a place where her daughter bonds with her grandmother and father, who also love reading.
