A FOOTBALL league in Warrington that encourages men to get into football to fight fat is expanding due to demand.

Man v Fat football league is an initiative that sees people who are defined as 'overweight' take part in a sport that encourages weight loss.

The league creates a positive community that allows members to support one another on their weight loss journeys, while having fun during football matches, too.

Since last speaking to the Warrington Guardian, Man v Fat has seen increased demand in the town, and is now expanding its football league.

The league will expand to hold 10 teams from May, and two free taster sessions are being held which will allow anyone interested to try out the league before signing up.

These sessions will take place on Tuesday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 25, from 9-10pm at Orford Hub football pitch.

One of the individuals we spoke to in the league last summer even managed to reverse his diagnosis of diabetes.

All in all, during the 2021/22 season, league members lost more than 30 stones of fat.

The league is open to players from the age of 18 upwards and has many competitors taking part who are into their 50s - players must have a BMI of 27.5 or above to join.

Dan Edwards is a coach within the league, he said: "It's so much more than just a Tuesday night, it's like a big family all looking to help each other, push each other to our goals."

The community is incredibly supportive at Man v Fat, with members coming together to buy a PlayStation 5 for one of the member's sons, who had recently been in hospital.

Dan added: "Man v Fat Warrington is expanding!

"We are moving to at least 10 teams in May, with two free sessions for people to come down and try to see if they would like to sign up as we move into May."
