A WOMAN from Warrington has embarked on a yachting challenge that will see her sail 21,000 miles.

Jacqueline Keasley is taking part in UNICEF's Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which departed from Portsmouth on September 3.

She will be sailing half of the worldwide journey (21,000 miles) before alighting in Australia in early 2024.

Posting on her fundraising page, Jacqueline said: "There are 11 70-foot clippers taking part, and I’m on CV23 sailing with Team Ineke with a crew of around 20.

"21,000 miles - I find it amazing to comprehend."

A member of Warrington Sports Club's squash team, Jackie's yacht - Perseverance - has won the first leg of the race, arriving with a good lead in Spain on Saturday, September 9.

Jackie is aiming to raise 10p for every mile that she sails - with a fundraising goal of £2,100.

The fundraising page Jackie has set up says: "If I could raise 10p for every mile sailed, that would get me to my target of £2100.

"As I enjoy running, walking, and cycling - and have plenty of friends, family  acquaintances who do too - how about we raise a smile per mile, by donating each time you clock up your mileage, and at the same time tell us where you’ve been?

"Let's see if the land miles keep up with the sea miles over my journey.

"Every mile counts, everybody is different & whether it’s a mile or 100, every step counts and any donation per mile would be greatly appreciated.

"Knowing what you have all been up to and where you've been will keep me going on our long journey too."
