SCHOOLS across Warrington have taken part in a fundraising day to remember Brianna Ghey.

Brianna was killed in February and was found with multiple stab wounds - she was 16 years old.

Following her death, Brianna's mum combined forces with the Warrington Guardian to create the Peace in Mind campaign.

It is the aim of the campaign to fundraise enough money to provide more mental health and wellbeing support for schoolchildren.

Peace in Mind will raise money to send school staff on training courses organised by the Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP).

Tuesday, November 7, would have been Brianna's 17th birthday - and a fundraising day was held in her memory.

Schools across Warrington took part in the 'Wear Pink for Peace' day, which saw hundreds of people wear pink clothing to mark Brianna's birthday.

Pink was Brianna's favourite colour and was also worn by mourners when attending Brianna's funeral in March.

Tributes were led by Birchwood High School on Brianna's birthday, with staff and students partaking in the day of fundraising.

Among the students wearing pink were Scarlett Dunn, Mika Bailey, Grace Webb, and Lavinia Burcea.

The four pupils said: "Today is about respect, really, and about remembering Brianna.

"The day gives a sense of hope to the community, and it feels like a tribute."

They added: "It's nice to see everyone come together and support one another."

Other schools taking part in the day include Locking Stumps Primary School, Latchford St James Church of England Primary School, Cardinal Newman Catholic High School, and Lymm High School.

The Peace in Mind campaign is spearheaded by the Warrington Guardian alongside Esther Ghey.

Tom Bedworth, community reporter at the Warrington Guardian, said: "We've been blown away by the support that people in our town and beyond have given to our campaign.

"From launching the campaign in September to now, it's been staggering to see how much Peace in Mind has touched the hearts of people in Warrington, and across the country.

"It's a testament to the power of community in our town, and we've been very proud to use our platform to remember Brianna."

The campaign has also been supported by Warrington Wolves, the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation, Warrington Borough Council, Andy Carter MP and Charlotte Nichols MP - as well as a number of local businesses.

Esther Ghey said: "I am completely overwhelmed with the number of people that got involved in the Wear Pink for Peace day; celebrating Brianna's birthday and raising money for our campaign.

"I'm spending time reading through all of the lovely messages I have received from people who either took part in the day or wanted to let me know that my family were in their thoughts.

"I've received so many beautiful pictures of people wearing pink, or our Peace in Mind T-shirts.

"I will be posting the pictures on our social media pages: Peace in Mind UK."

"Everyone who has supported us in any way are a major part of our this, and I want to give everyone my sincerest thanks for everything that they are doing to help.

"I really believe that together, we will make massive improvements to our society for generations to come."
