Jeremy Clarkson has hit back at fans of the popular quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after making an on-air blunder.

The 63-year-old presenter faced harsh criticism from viewers for not knowing the answer to a question related to a well-known politician.

However, the Clarkson's Farm star hit back, telling fans of the show that the episode was recorded in advance and that the figure in question wasn't well known at the time.

Jeremy Clarkson hits back at Who Wants To Be A Millionaire fans over blunder

The episode saw hopeful Ivo Yordanov turn to Jeremy Clarkson for help with a question related to the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant was asked: "What position was Mark Drakeford reappointed to in 2021?"

Despite viewers at home seemingly knowing the answer, Jeremy Clarkson was left clueless, saying he had "never heard" of the Welsh Labour leader.

The options given were Attorney General, First Minister of Wales, Head of the Civil Service and First Minister of Northern Ireland.

Ivo then opted to use his 'phone a friend' lifeline but his close friend was equally clueless about the question, forcing the contestant to use his 50/50 lifeline.

This thankfully paid off for Ivo, allowing him to bag the £8000 up for grabs.

Viewers at home were outraged, taking to X, formally known as Twitter, to say it was ridiculous that he did not know the answer to the question, according to The Mirror.

One user said: "It's genuinely unbelievable and mortifying that Jeremy Clarkson doesn’t know who Mark Drakeford is??!! He's meant to be a journalist."

Another angrily wrote: "Jeremy Clarkson not knowing who Mark Drakeford is just proves he needs to spend less time moaning about Meghan Markle and more time reading actual news."

A third said: "Really not sure what the hell is going on here. The contestant, Jeremy Clarkson and the phone a friend had all never heard of Mark Drakeford. WHAT."

A fourth shared these sentiments, adding: "Flipping heck, Jeremy Clarkson has never heard of Mark Drakeford? He's obviously been living under a big massive rock."

However, Jeremy Clarkson hit back at criticism, writing on the social media platform: "To be clear. This Millionaire was recorded more than a year ago. I know who Drakeford is now.!!!"
