TO Pie For is upper crust when it comes to winning awards.

The Fearnhead bakery on Station Road North scooped three top honours at this year’s British Pie Awards.

Shane Nield and Lindsay James know a thing or two about winning awards having taken home 16 in the past five years.

The latest pies to top the charts are To Pie For’s steak and peppercorn, steak and stilton and minted lamb.

The steak and peppercorn pie placed silver in the annual awards in Melton Mowbray during British Pie Week last week – March 4 to March 10 – with the steak and stilton and the minted lamb pies both taking bronze.

Each pie is tasted by 10 judges before they hand out the awards.

Shane, who is a chef by trade and has a passion for good food, said: “The British Pie Awards are like the Oscars to us – they’re a big event each year – and thousands of pies are entered across all the categories.

“We drove all the way to Melton Mowbray to hand deliver the pies and they were judged in each pie class by 10 judges.

“The feedback we received from the judges was brilliant.

“They said our pies look beautiful, have a lovely pastry and are full of meat and flavour.”

He added: “Our customers love the pies too and say it’s no wonder we’ve won as our pies are just to die for.”

To Pie For is an artisan bakery where everything is made from scratch each day.

They make and sell small and large pies to take away and have hot pie and mash meals and deli sandwiches - Reubin, club and BBQ pulled pork.

They make pork pie wedding cakes as well as personalised pie cakes and sell their large pies on artisan markets all over the north west.

Shane said: “We usually sell out in under two hours - 450 pies in two hours!

“We often have queues of 40 people waiting to buy a pie!”

To Pie For’s pie of the week for St Patrick's Day is Irish bacon and cabbage in a parsley sauce.
