THE weather may be bad, but here is a sign that summer is on its way.
Kenyon Hall Farm’s 2024 strawberry season countdown has officially begun.
The family-run farm in Croft is known for its strawberries, so much so that it even featured on BBC breakfast last year.
It has grown the fruit since 1978, with strawberries being the most important part of the farm’s diversification.
Yesterday, Monday, Kenyon Hall Farm revealed that the team have been busy putting a roof on each of the four strawberry tunnels.
Strawberry season used to last between three to five weeks at the farm, but the plastic tunnels mean it can last from May to September and even into October.
This is because the tunnels allow for a more controlled environment in which Kenyon Hall Farm's strawberries can grow.
The team are expecting to have the first fruit ready for visitors to come and pick in early June.
