GRAPPENHALL suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat to high-flying Chester in Cheshire County First XI Premier League on Saturday.

Chester put the home side in to bat and straight away got to work on the batting order causing Grappenhall to fall to 41 for 5 early on.

Grappenhall looked like they would be bowled out cheaply, but Ian Barnes came in to get 89 off just 70 deliveries and put his side back on track.

However after Barnes’ dismissal, the tail offered little resistance and Grappenhall were bowled out for 157 in the 38th over.

Chester did not waste any time chasing down the target, with the opening partnership getting to 110 before the only wicket of the innings fell.

Ex-Lancashire batsman Warren Goodwin was sent to the crease and soon raced to a match-winning 95 not out as Chester reached the target in the 22nd over.
