WOLVES boss Tony Smith was unhappy with his team’s performance in the 24-24 draw with Huddersfield Giants but pleased with his players’ desire not to give the game up.

Warrington were 23-6 behind up until the 57th minute mark but regained the lead and looked set for the two points until Danny Brough landed the equalising drop goal with 36 seconds left on the clock.

Smith said: “You watch the first half and this was a point gained for us, but the last 25 minutes told a different story.

“It was great entertainment, wasn’t it? That’s fantastic, but as a coach I have to say we were disappointed with our first half.

“We weren’t far off our game, but we just were’nt on it. It was a little frustrating.

“You can tell when teams aren’t quite on their game because they let in a couple of soft tries each.

“You’ve got to say Ben Harrison’s fantastic effort to barge his way over was a soft try from Huddersfield’s perspective and had the same in the first half when Shaun Lunt went over from dummy half.

“You just don’t want to be in that sort of mood and mode.

“We got ourselves out of it. We found some energy, some response and ways of speeding the game up as well.

“So it was an entertaining game of rugby league that we’re not overly proud of ourselves, but at the same time we showed some spirit and a bit about ourselves to find our way back into a position where in the end we probably should have managed to do a little bit better and win it.

“But as a club and as a team we could have easily rolled over and said at 19-6 it was too much to come back. Those days are gone, we fought really hard against what is a very good team.”
