WARRINGTON Town chiefs have vowed to do all they can to overturn bans handed to two star players – meaning they will miss the FA Cup second round clash at Gateshead.

Goal-scoring hero Craig Robinson and centre forward Ben Wharton landed three-match suspensions as punishment for red cards in Saturday's 3-0 league defeat at Kendal.

It means they would miss the trip to Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday week.

However, Town boss Shaun Reid says the club are considering ways to help two of his key men after feeling they were harshly treated by the officials.

“We are looking into the situation as it stands and we will be doing everything in our power as a football club to protect our players,” he explained.

“That was just not good enough and I feel for the boys. At the end of the game they realised the result of the sending offs and it’s not right.

“It’s got to be changed.

"Refereeing is the hardest job in the world and there should be some way of looking at the decisions when someone’s had an off day.

“We’ll wait with interest to see what he puts in his report and as soon as we get the paperwork consider how we pursue the situation.”

Reid also felt for the fans who had made the long away trip, only to see their side at a numerical disadvantage before the break.

“As performances go by officials, I think they need to take a look at themselves,” he added.

“Two teams turned up with supporters looking to enjoy the game and it was ruined by inept decisions.”

However, the 49-year-old was encouraged this week by the prospect of adding a former Premier League prodigy to his ranks.

Ex-Everton midfielder Gerard Kinsella was banned for two years by the Football Association in June 2013, testing positive for anabolic steroids after unwittingly using Nandrolone.

Now free to train again, the former Fleetwood Town man could prove a major coup for Reid and the Yellows.

“I’m looking to improve the squad with a couple of players over the next week or so,” said Reid.

“One is Gerard Kinsella. He was given a ban, but he will brighten the whole place up and give the lads a lift.

“The chairman is proactive and always looking to improve. In the next couple of weeks we will push up the league.”

Reid is also hopeful his new additions may be able to feature in the FA Cup.

“It will be down to whether they are cup tied,” he added.

“I have a list of about eight and a couple would still be able to play in the FA Cup.”
