FA CUP goal hero Craig Robinson could figure for Warrington Town in the second-round tie with Gateshead on December 7 after all.

And 12 days between matches could benefit the 32-year-old central defender, says manager Shaun Reid.

Robinson, who scored the thrilling seventh-minute winner as Yellows secured their giant-killing act against Exeter City on November 7, looked set to miss the North East trip after being sent off for dissent at Kendal Town two weeks ago.

But his eventual two-match ban, rather than the expected three, along with Warrington’s progress in the Doodson Sport Cup means he becomes available again after next Tuesday’s trek to Workington.

“He is not the youngest member of the squad and that rest may come in good time for the FA Cup tie,” said Reid.

“He has been carrying a niggling injury and he had a tight hamstring after the Salford City game on Tuesday. The week-to-ten-days’ rest might just clear those up and he can go full tilt when I am sure he will be biting at the bit for Gateshead.”

Striker Ben Wharton, another hero against Exeter, will miss the next three games through suspension after his red card at Kendal.

He may have been forced on the sidelines by a likely knee-ligament injury in any case.

“We will assess when the swelling goes down, then we will know the longevity of his absence,” said Reid.

“He has got time now to rest it and the physios can work on him. Hopefully when his ban ends he will be fit and raring to go.”

Reid’s aim is for his team to head to Gateshead on the back of a strong string of results, with the current sequence being two wins and a draw.

Not many team changes are expected for Saturday’s visit to Ossett Albion, currently one place above Warrington in 17th spot.

But fans should expect the long haul into Cumbria to be a different story on Tuesday — five days before the televised, all-ticket, FA Cup encounter at Gateshead International Stadium.

Reid said: “I have got a big enough squad, and a reserve team and a youth team, so I promise you I am going to utilise every bit of it. The main reason is the travelling. A lot of the boys are working and to get there is a logistics problem.”

Warrington’s allocation of 1,200 FA Cup tickets goes on sale, cash only, at Cantilever Park today (Friday). Season-ticket holders, vice-presidents and sponsors can buy from 10am to noon.

Those with golden tickets acquired at the home game against Radcliffe will have slots from noon to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm to buy.

Any remaining tickets will be available to all this Saturday from 10am to noon.
