Warrington Wolves u19s 36 Hull KR u19s 16

WARRINGTON Wolves returned to action following three-week absence to gain victory over Hull KR in the Under 19s Academy on Friday at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Wolves opened the scoring in the 12h minute when a superb break from dummy half by hooker Daniel Hirst spit the Rovers defence and he found full back Jack Johnson in support to race 40 metres and score between the posts.

Centre Harvey Livett converted, but Rovers hit back five minutes later when quick hands across the line saw the ball reach centre Macauley Hallett and he slipped the ball brilliantly for winger Ash Leaming to score.

Hull KR hit the front on 26 minutes when a kick on the last tackle by stand off Marvin Lee cannoned off a Wolves player and into the arms of winger Joe Wardill.

He raced away down the right before finding prop forward Steve Holker, who scored at the side of the posts. Substitute Elliot Kerry converted.

But on the half hour Wolves responded when great work from a penalty down the left by winger David Foggin-Johnston put his side close to the Rovers line.

A quick play the ball saw substitute Robert Holroyd power over in the left corner. Livett added a fine touchline conversion to give Wolves a slender 12-10 half time advantage.

Four minutes after the break an error by Rovers in their own 20 metre area gave the Wolves possession and the ball was sent along the line to Foggin-Johnston, who brushed off three defenders superbly and managed to acrobatically dive over in the left corner.

The visitors responded again when a scrum on the Wolves line gave them a great opportunity and after two quick play the balls prop forward Chris Smith stormed over between the posts. Kerry converted to level.

Hull KR were camped on the Wolves line but some strong defence from the home side kept them at bay and when they made an error Foggin-Johnston pounced.

He hacked the ball downfield and collected it on the halfway line before racing a further 30 metres and finding stand off Morgan Smith, who was held short.

But a quick play the ball saw Livett go over wide on the right. He converted his own try.

Just before the hour mark Wolves centre Charlie Phythian gave a great ball to Foggin-Johnston who once again dived over brilliantly in the left corner. Livett landed the conversion.

Wolves continued to pile on the pressure with some exhilarating attacking play and good work close to the line saw the ball moved out wide to Phythian, who scored wide out on the left.

Nine minutes from time a lovely cut out ball from scrum half Brad Stanway found Foggin-Johnston, who flew over in the left corner to complete a stunning hat-trick and round off a tremendous 36-16 win for the Wolves.
