GRAPPENHALL subsided to a comprehensive Cheshire League Premier Division defeat to Bowdon at Broad Lane in their second match of the season.

Electing to bat on an excellent track, Grappers were soon in trouble at 26 for 2 with both openers, Adam Roylance and Ian Barnes, back in the shed.

Debutant overseas player Warwick Abrahim and Will Sharp batted resolutely against a good Bowdon seam attack.

They took the score to 70 before Sharp fell LBW for 18.

Richard Green joined Abrahim and they put on a further 43 before the South African all-rounder, having just reached his maiden 50, was caught.

Abrahim had already showed more than enough to suggest he will be a good acquisition.

Green went soon after for 17 from which point, with the score at 125 for 5, wickets fell regularly.

Only Jimmy McCoy had any real impact with a quick-fire 23.

The last five wickets mustered just 36 runs, as home side Grappenhall were bundled out for a well-below-par score of 161 in the 49th over.

In reply, Bowdon made a shaky start at 9 for 1, Ian Barnes taking the wicket, which could easily have soon after been two down when the dangerous Simon Marshall was dropped on three.

Warwick took his first wicket when Bowdon were 49 for 2, but a partnership of 72 took the opposition to 121 when Marshall went for 62 – Ian Barnes striking again.

Thereafter Bowdon batted freely and passed their target in the 35th over having lost just three wickets.

For Grappenhall, Gaz Burns bowling with some hostility was unlucky not to be among the wickets.

It meant Grappenhall took just five points from the game. With a trip to Alderley Edge on Saturday, the Warrington outfit need to improve on what has not been a good start to their 2015 campaign after an opening draw with Marple.

GRAPPENHALL seconds travelled to Bowdon on Saturday and recorded a comfortable victory to make it 50 points from 50 after the first two weeks of the season.

Bowdon were bowled out for 121 with Matt Titchard again the pick of the bowling, mopping up the tail with four wickets for very little.

In reply, the total was chased down for the loss of four wickets with Jack Critchley proving the match winner with the bat with a hard fought 38 not out following on from his grafted innings last week.

GRAPPERS' thirds travelled to neighbours Warrington for their second T20 cup match and duly won with relative ease.

Batting first Grappers posted a decent 131 for 3 on big boundaries.

Mike Parton opened up with a good 28 but the star with the bat was Matty Brown with 70 in 56 balls as he showed real intent from the off.

Warrington never really got going in reply.

Although wickets were hard to come by, so were runs for the Warrington batsmen with the Grappers’ young bowlers, Stan Pennington, Arron McCabe and Ben Bravington bowling good line and length to restrict the scoring opportunities.

By the time Neil Titchard and Paul Tyerman came into the attack with the variations on off spin bowling, the game was beyond Warrington.

A couple of wickets fell to Tyerman and Warrington stumbled to 91 for 2 off their 20 overs to give Grappers a 41-run winning margin.
