TEENAGE gymnastics star Lucy Stanhope took positives from the European Youth Olympic Festival despite suffering an injury.

The Warrington-based 13-year-old finished seventh alongside Team GB teammates Maisie Methuen and Georgia-Mae Fenton in the team event, but injury curtailed her individual all-around final.

However she still came away with 24th spot in Tbilisi.

“I went clean during the team event where we came seventh," she said. "I was pleased with that and I qualified for the all-around final.

“Unfortunately I landed on a straight leg on my bars dismount. I managed to do beam after but had to pull out of floor. Apart from this the whole experience has been brilliant.

"It’s been great to compete against the other gymnasts from around Europe and get to know the athletes we’ll be competing with when we get to senior level. It’s been an amazing week. I’ve loved it.

“I’d like to one day compete in European or World Championships and maybe even the Olympics in 2020. I’ve always looked up to Rebecca Tunney.

"I train with her and she works hard. She gives me great advice and I really like having her as my training partner.”
