TWELVE Warrington Athletics Club runners descended on Woodbank Park in Stockport for the opening Manchester Area Cross Country League fixture on Saturday.

In the women’s events, under 20s star Harriet Knowles-Jones was the only runner from the club but ran out a convincing winner of the event in a time of 31 minutes 54 seconds, winning by 50 seconds.

In the under 13 boys' race, Lucas Hayes ran well to finish in fifth place in a time of 12 minutes 49 seconds and was followed home by Isaaq Ataullah in 13th, clocking 13 minutes 26 seconds, while Joe Roberts completed the team in 17th place in 13 minutes 32 seconds as Warrington finished fifth in the team competition.

In the under 15s race Sam Evans ran well finishing in third place in 16 minutes 03 seconds and Joe Buckley also ran well to claim 11th in 17 minutes 04 seconds.

Jack Stubbings had a good run in the under 17s race Jack Stubbings, scooping second place in 22 minutes 31 seconds and, with Daniel Fox sixth in 23 minutes 31 seconds and Luke Gamble 11th in 24 minutes 19 seconds, Warrington took the team victory.

In the Senior/Junior race Daniel Evans finished in 33rd place in 33 minutes 14 seconds and Chris Fance was 55th in 34 minutes 26 seconds to finish as fourth and eighth juniors (under 20).

Steve Watmough finished in 137th place in 37 minutes 24 seconds to place eighth in the over 50s age group.
