FROM Wembley to Sports Personality of the year, Lizzie Jones is getting used to performing on the biggest stages.

And on Sunday she has been given the task of opening Warrington Wolves’ new sound system at The Halliwell Jones Stadium before the first home game of the new Super League season.

It will be an emotional occasion for the 31-year-old who lost her husband Danny in May when he suffered a cardiac arrest during a Keighley Cougars match. He was airlifted to hospital but doctors could not save the Welsh international’s life.

Lizzie says the response of Wolves, and the wider rugby league community, meant she was honoured to be asked to perform – her latest big stage after she sang before August’s Challenge Cup final and December’s BBC showcase.

She said: “They [Wolves] were wonderful with us when Danny died. They did not hesitate to donate to the fund for the twins so I wanted to give something back.

“Everywhere I go I am trying to raise awareness of Danny’s death and raise the profile of the fact that 12 people a week die from an undiagnosed heart condition.

“If people see me and think they should get a check, or a check for a family member, then it is worth it.”

Lizzie will be in Warrington with her twins Bobby and Phoebe.

“It will be a special day for me with my children there as well. It is Valentine’s Day, but I am not dreading it as much as some other days.

“Danny was a non-believer! He always said ‘why should I get a card and a present when I love you every day?’.”

And she will be hoping everything goes smoothly on Sunday.

She said: “I am used to singing for audiences, but obviously not to this number of people.

“I get more excited than nervous. I more worry about things going wrong.”

Lizzie will be singing from 2.30pm with Wolves officials, hoping fans get in early ahead of the 3pm kick-off.

There will also be a set from new DJ James Glover, new cheerleaders The Wirettes and the debut of new flags in the South Stand.

And a full season member will get the chance to kick their way to Australia with the crossbar challenge run in conjunction with Emirates.
