WARRINGTON Town have added a former Manchester United defender to their squad.

The Yellows have secured the services of left back Michael Lea from Colwyn Bay.

The signing follows Alex McQuade’s decision to leave the club in search of a career in Australia.

Chairman Toby Macormac said: “We are disappointed to lose the services of Alex but fully understand his desire to follow his dream and play in Australia and we wish him well.

“We are delighted to have been able to sign an experienced full back, who had an excellent pedigree as a youngster at one of the biggest club’s in the world.”

The 28-year-old began his career at Old Trafford, becoming a regular for the reserve team in the 2006/7 season before going on loan to Belgian side Antwerp.

Town, who host Ossett Albion on Saturday, have also promoted defender Craig Robinson to a position of player-coach.

Robinson, scorer of the Yellows’ winner in the FA Cup against Exeter City last season, will help new management duo Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith.

"Craig has been a true professional this season and will provide valuable support for our new managerial partnership,” added Macormac.
