WARRINGTON boxer Nathan 'The Wire' Wheatley is looking ahead to new challenges after winning his latest bout.

The middleweight from Padgate earned a points win over Christian Hoskin Gomez in Bolton after his first fight under the tutelage of trainer Kieran Farrell.

The 27-year-old, who walked out to the tune of Swings and Waterslides by Warrington’s own Viola Beach, won all but one of the four rounds to record a comfortable 39-37 victory.

Wheatley, whose professional record extends to three wins out of three with the win over Gomez, says he is now focussed on preparing for the next challenge.

“It was a good performance, I won three rounds out of the four and the other was a draw so I won quite convincingly,” he said.

“We’ve highlighted areas in which I can improve for the next fight, and I’ll be working on them with Kieran.

“I learned a lot from the fight and it will serve me well going forward.”

'The Wire' faces another experienced opponent next in the shape of Huddersfield’s Alistair Warren, who has shared a ring with current British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr in the past.

They will clash in a six-round bout at Manchester’s Middleton Arena on Friday, June 24.

The fight is top of the bill and Wheatley, who has trained alongside the likes of Martin Murray and Anthony Crolla, says he is looking forward to the experience.

“He is a similar fighter to Gomez in that he comes forward a lot so it’s another step up for me,” he said.

“He gave Eubank Jr a bit of trouble for the first two rounds before going down in the third so it will be a good test of where I am up to.”

Tickets for Nathan’s next fight are available from Wheatley’s barbers and salon, on Manchester Road.

They are priced at £20, £40 and £70.

Coach transport to the fight will also be available for those interested.
