Neston Nomads 0 Grange Sports 3

GRANGE Sports became the first team from Warrington to lift the Northern Cup at the weekend.

Scott Robinson took his season's goal tally to 50 with his second of the final and Kevin Ferrigan bagged the third at South Liverpool.

Robinson rounded the keeper for the 10th-minute opener, then converted from the penalty spot after Arron Lilford was brought down, before Ferrigan volleyed home Ryan Wilde's cross.

Grange's back four were solid throughout.

The Warrington and District League Division One outfit started well, not giving their opposition any time to play their usual fluent football.

They were rewarded with Robinson's opening goals to be 2-0 ahead after 28 minutes.

Grange continued to press and Neston could not handle the pace and power of the forwards.

Ryan Wilde continued to break the line of the back four on the right wing and it was in the 40th minute that he escaped yet again, leaving the Neston full back standing.

He supplied a brilliant cross for Ferrigan to finish from six yards for what proved to be the nail in the Nomads coffin.

Neston did have a couple of chances in the second period.

An early opportunity from a free kick was clawed out from the top corner by reliable goalkeeper Mitch Moores and late on Nomads hit the crossbar.

In between, Grange thought they had scored again when Dobbs powered forward to produce a great cross for man-of-the-match Wilde to head home only to be denied for a harsh offside decision.

But there was no stopping Grange in the end.
