A YOUNG Lymm side were beaten 45-33 at Newport Salop in their latest pre-season friendly.
Newport, who will be playing at Level 4 in National League 2 West this coming season, provided a stern test for the visitors.
Lymm held leads of 14-5, 19-12 and 33-19 courtesy of tries from Joe Joshua, Cal Morris, Andy Williams, Alex Stuart and Ali Sutherland.
As the Lymm coaches emptied the bench for the final 25 minutes, giving a number of younger squad players and former colts a taste of first-team rugby, Newport hit back with four tries.
“We should take a lot from that run-out,” said Lymm’s head coach Andy Davies.
“In many ways it was a trial match which allowed us to try a few combinations and blood some youngsters.
“We are excited about this squad and can all look forward to the coming season with relish.”
Lymm (1 to 15): Gavin Wood, James Pitcher, Ben Thompson, Rhys Lily, Alastair Sutherland, Sean Callander, Joseph Johnson, Joshua Hadland; Callum Morris, Jack Reynolds; Patrick Jennings, James Kimber, Stephen Pilkington, Joseph Senior, Cormac Nolan. Reserves: Andy Rowley, Daniel Senior, Jack Stride, James Anderson, Andrew Williams, Joseph Higgins, Alex Stuart, Quinn Peers, Ben Thompson, Ryan Vanden, Rory Scotland.
