LYMM moved up to eighth in National League 2 North following a 25-25 draw at Billingham.

But they feel disappointed not to have come home with all the points.

After all, Lymm led 17-0 from their efforts in the opening 34 minutes but with less than 10 minutes to go they were trailing in an error-filled game.

They will want to do better when they play their final game of the year away to bottom side Huddersfield on Saturday.

“I'm actually disappointed we didn't get the win,” said Lymm director of rugby Adam Fletcher.

“I thought we put ourselves into a really strong position to win the game but unfortunately, we didn't manage our lead well.

“What was pleasing is we finished the game strongly and looked like the team pushing for the win.

“It's not an easy place to go, it's one of our longest bus trips so to leave with two points is not a bad outcome. The boys are playing well and are looking forward to getting stuck into Huddersfield next week.”

From a planned five-metre lineout move, hooker James Pitcher took a short pass to go over in the corner for Lymm’s first try after eight minutes. Tom Shard kicked an excellent conversion from the touchline.

Eight minutes later Shard kicked a penalty, as Lymm continued to dominate.

Then full-back Jack Reynolds sliced through to score, with Shard converting for 17-0.

Billingham then started to put phases together and retain possession.

Their influential number eight Anthony Jackson touched down and after Reynolds was yellow carded for a technical offence the home side’s number seven Nathan Myers crossed the line, with one conversion added to cut Lymm’s lead to five points at the break.

Billingham’s momentum continued and prop Kieran Clark barrelled his way over, with Evans converting to put the hots in front for the first time.

Shard kicked a penalty on 53 minutes to restore a 20-19 lead.

A speculative chip over the home defence into their 22 was misfielded and Nathan Beasley snapped it up to touch down but he was adjudged to have knocked on.

Billingham edged back in front with a 40-metre penalty goal by Ryan Foreman.

Lymm now applied sustained pressure on the home team and Billingham’s Luke Armstrong was yellow carded.

From a well-controlled rolling maul, prop Matty Hand touched down but the conversion was missed.

Lymm just needed to retain possession but when Billingham made a rare visit into the Lymm half kickable penalty was awarded to Billingham, which Foreman converted to conclude the scoring.
