WARRINGTON Rugby Club under 15s gave their Lancashire Cup hopes a boost with a 45-17 victory over current champions Liverpool St Helens at Lymm on Sunday.

Fraser Savage broke the deadlock, gathering a loose ball in his own half and racing away to score.

From the kick-off, strong drives from George Kelly and McKenzie Morris allowed Freddie Hartill to find space to beat a retreating defence and round the full-back to score the second.

LSH came back strong and were pressing when Sam Laird's interception gamble paid off with a sprint to the line.

Jack Pendlebury and Hartill then made the most of the wind with their kicking game and Laird claimed his second from a cross-field kick to make the half-time score 26-0.

Warrington then struggled to exit against the wind and found themselves camped on their own line before Savage again found space deep in his own half and beat several players to score.

LSH proved what competitors they are with two tries while Warrington fought with the conditions.

Warrington switched their game plan to keep it tight in the forwards and Archie Turriff collected a Pendlebury cross-kick, offloaded to George Kelly to score.

McKenzie Morris also powered over from a ruck.

LSH claimed a consolation try on the whistle.

Assistant coach David Hartill was pleased with Warrington's system and said: "It's taken a few weeks this season but the way we break up our attack with the three half-backs is really starting to motor again.

“Our forwards get us on the front foot and our backs find three-on-two overlaps attacking a retreating defence."
