MARK Beesley has called on his Warrington Town players to keep the pedal to the metal as they bid to continue their excellent recent form.

Three wins in a row has seen them put any fears of being dragged towards a fight for survival far behind them and has even prompted talk of an unlikely play-off challenge.

Indeed, they are among a cluster of teams who are just a point outside the top seven as they prepare for Boston United’s visit to Cantilever Park on Saturday.

The Pilgrims occupy the final play-off spot and beat Town convincingly in Lincolnshire earlier in the season, but given only runaway leaders Tamworth are the only side to take a full complement of points from Beesley’s men since the turn of the year, they have good reason for approaching the weekend’s clash with confidence.

“We’ve got to keep pushing and improving,” Beesley said after watching his side beat Chorley 2-1 last time out.

“The players have got to keep wanting to improve because when people come to watch us, they want to see us play well, win games and entertain.

“We’ll make sure we’re pushing each other, doing our homework and not resting on our laurels.

“We could sit back and think ‘we’re doing alright here’ but football has a nasty habit of kicking you in the teeth if you do that.

“At the moment, everything around the club is positive and we’ve got to keep that good feeling going as long as we can.”

At least one change will have to be made to the starting line-up following Bohan Dixon's move to Macclesfield earlier this week.

Jay Harris would appear favourite to step back into the fold in his place while skipper Josh Amis remains the only current injury concern, with his ankle injury set to keep him out for several more weeks.

With Harris, Dec Walker and Evan Gumbs having been vying to get back into the side in recent weeks, competition for places has been intense.

“As we all know, we have a small squad but its full of quality,” Beesley said.

“We will make changes – at the end of this month when the Tuesday games come, we have to move people around.

“There could be changes for specific tactical reasons, which we made on Saturday and we may do the same again next week.

“It’s credit to the lads – we’ve got 15 players vying for spaces and they all have to be ready.

“They’re a tight-knit group and they give everything for the club, which is all you can ask.”

Outside of the 15 senior players Beesley has available to him, there was a familiar face back around the group at the weekend in the shape of Mikey Howard.

The forward has not featured for the club since October 2022 having suffered an ACL injury but was seen taking part in the team’s warm-up before the Chorley game.

While he is not being considered as a potential option for what remains of this season, Beesley says Howard will be kept around with a view to reintegrating him during pre-season.

“Mikey’s obviously had a really bad injury and it’s taken him a bit of time to get his operation done,” he said.

“He’s back training with us and in the next couple of weeks, we’ll look at getting him some games somewhere for the final stages of his recovery.

“He’ll come back to us for pre-season and we’ll see where he’s at.”
