Wolves basketball push for promotion with vital scalp
11:57am Thursday 16th February 2012
WARRINGTON Wolves Foundation Basketball team claimed an important scalp in their quest for back-to-back English Basketball League promotions this week.
Following their promotion to Division Three at the start of the season, Wolves are pressing at the top of the division in third and defeated league leaders Loughborough Riders at Ball Hall.
Wolves flew out of the blocks and built up a lead that they would never relinquish, leading by 16 points in the third quarter.
Outscored in the final quarter by 27-16, Wolves narrowly held on to a 78-76 victory after Loughborough missed a three-pointer on the buzzer.
Now on the road for the next two games, first at Sheffield Sabres on Saturday before travelling to Stockport Falcons the following week, Wolves will find it hard not to think about their vital next home clash against second-placed Manchester Magic at Ball Hall on March 3.
