EAGLE Rugby Union Club are reflecting on a season to remember.

Having already been crowned champions of Miller Homes Division 3 West, the icing on the cake came when they were voted team of the season by the league committee.

This was no small feat as they beat 143 teams to this accolade.

Having gone unbeaten in all 22 of their league games finishing on a maximum 110 points, it is difficult to pick some stand out moments.

However, some from a memorable season include traveling to face a well-drilled Christleton side and coming from behind to clinch the win in the dying moments of the game.

Another stand out moment was another close victory on the road to local rivals Moore, winning the game 24-17 and avenging the previous season’s cup final defeat and then facing them later in the season, running away as 51-22 victors.

Player-coach Daniel Cahill gave his thoughts on why the season had gone so well.

He said: “Most of the lads have played together for the last 15 years and even more in some instances.

“Their commitment to each other has been the catalyst for success.”

Eagle have no intention of resting on their laurels.

Captain Ashley Losh added: “Given the outstanding season we have just had there is no reason why we can’t push for back-to-back promotions.”

Pre-season training started on Wednesday, June 21, at Eagle Sports Club, Thornton Road, Great Sankey, 7pm start.
