AS a resident of the area affected by the seagull disturbance in Woolston where you cannot sleep with a bedroom window open because of the 4am alarm created by them.

I read with interest Andrew Hill’s (Labour candidate) comments on the seagull situation in Woolston (Warrington Guardian, April 21).

There is definitely no funny side attached to it.

Both myself and my wife contacted Warrington Borough Council on different occasions last year to enquire if there was any possibility of contacting the firms on Woolston Grange Employment Area and requesting them not to leave skips that might contain food open.

I also asked about the removal of old nesting material from flat roofs in an attempt to deter the seagulls returning.

All we got was a curt reply of ‘there’s nothing that can be done about them as they are a protected species’.
